The governing board of the institution is responsible for the selection and the evaluation of the chief executive officer.
Texas A&M University System Policy 02.01, Board of Regents  sets out the roles and responsibilities of the Board of Regents of the Texas A&M University System as assigned by law. The Board of Regents provides the policy direction for the system and its member universities, agencies and the health science center. The Board of Regents formulates, updates, adopts and publishes official policies for the system as described in System Policy 01.01, System Policies, Regulations and Member Rules . In addition to other powers and duties assigned by law, the Board of Regents establishes, for each system member under its control and management, goals consistent with the role and mission of the institution.
The Board of Regents annually evaluates the performance of the chancellor of the system and the president of each university and the health center, and director of each agency and assists each executive officer (CEO) in the achievement of performance goals. The Board of Regents, as stated in System Policy 01.03, Appointing Power and Terms and Conditions of Employment , is responsible for the selection and periodic evaluation of the president of the University. System Policy 02.05, Presidents of System Member Universities ,explains that the Board appoints the presidents of the system member universities who serve under the direction of the chancellor. George C. Wright, PhD , is the current president of Prairie View A&M University. The PVAMU Compact with Texas A&M University System  outlines the performance goals by which Dr. Wright is evaluated. The Chancellor of the TAMU System requested input from Dr. Wright for his evaluation in May 2009 .
